Return on Karate Canada Senior National Training Camp-1 and Team Announcement
Karate Canada has proudly concluded on Sunday May 13th the 2018 edition of its annual First Senior National Training Camp. Held, for the first time, at the Institut National du Sport du Québec, in Montreal, the Camp assembled close to 50 athletes and 8 National Team Coaches, in kata, kumite and Para-karate. This 3-day Camp ended on a high note, as Karate Canada announced the selection of its National Team Roster for the season as well as the National Team selection for participation in the 2018 Senior Pan American Championships (to be held in Santiago, Chile, in June – the full list will be posted shortly). The Camp was co-led by National Team Head Coaches Katarina Vadovicova (Kata), Nassim Varasteh (Kumite) and Heather Fidyk (Para-karate), with the help of Assistant National Team Coaches Sorin Alexandru, Kraig Devlin, Roman Saltikov (kumite) and Pam Ross (kata), and assistance from Apprentice Coach Christopher De Sousa Costa.
Highlights of the Camp included physical testing for targeted athletes with cutting-edge equipment; an educational presentation on anti-doping by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports; a competition simulation and scoring criteria session with KC Officials’ Committee Chair and WKF Referee, Mr. Yaro Tarana, and much more.
As usual, Karate Canada wishes to sincerely thank all of the staff members and volunteers who once again made this great event possible. Finally, we wish to congratulate all participating athletes for their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to other Senior National Team Roster events of the season, such as the upcoming Regional Kumite Training Camps, the Kata National Training Camp, the Training Camp at the annual Karate Canada Summit, the aforementioned 2018 Senior Pan American Karate Championships, the 2018 Senior World Championships and several other Open Championships.
Karate Canada would like to officially announce the athletes selected onto the Senior National Team Roster for the 2018-2019 season. Congratulations!
