TEAM CANADA SET TO COMPETE IN PARIS WKF OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT
Karate Canada’s Team for the WKF Olympic Qualification Tournament has arrived in Paris, France, and is set to compete in this crucially important event. The competition will take place from June 11 to 13, bringing together close to 500 top athletes from 98 different countries. Karate Canada will be represented by 8 athletes, with one in every Olympic division (you may click here to view the composition of the entire delegation). Please note that all applicable COVID-19-related safety protocols and measures are being strictly respected and enforced by our Team.
This event constitutes the final qualification tournament opportunity for our Canadian karateka on the road to the Tokyo 2020 (2021) Summer Olympic Games, as the top 3 of every division will earn their spot to compete in karate’s first-ever Olympics (click here to access the WKF’s Olympic Qualification System). “This represents the culmination of years and years of dedicated and focused work by these athletes, their coaches, training partners and supporters.” says Executive Director Olivier Pineau. “This entire (extended) Olympic cycle has been building up to this moment; we’re well prepared, and it’s now time to shine.” Karate Canada sincerely wishes the very best of luck to all of our competitors and coaches!
You may follow all of the action (starting this Friday at 9 AM Paris time) live on the World Karate Federation’s YouTube Channel. Stay tuned for results (available in real time on the event’s SportData page) and consult our Facebook page regularly for updates.
Participation of our delegation in this event has, in large part, been made possible by the Government of Canada.
