Karate Canada is pleased to announce Nassim Varasteh, Senior National Team Head Coach, has been selected as an Athlete Role Model (ARM) for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6 to October 18th. The main goal behind the programme is to enable the ARMs to share their experiences and inspire the athletes to be the best they can be both on and off the field of play. Every 32 sports’ International Federation has named a sport legend to support and mentor athletes at the Games. Karate Canada is very proud to count on such a great ambassador for the sport of karate and would like to congratulate Mrs. Varasteh for this remarkable honour. “It is well deserved. Nassim continues to represent Canada with distinction; first as an athlete and now as a coach and ambassador for our sport. The WKF made an excellent nomination. This shows that in the long run, integrity and commitment count” mentions Craig Vokey, Karate Canada’s President.

Nassim Varasteh was vice-world champion twice in kumite -60kg in 2006 and 2008. She now runs her own club in the greater Toronto area and has been coaching the Senior National Team in kumite for over four years. She was also Head Coach of the Canadian delegation at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, where Canada won two silver and two bronze medals.
