Karate Canada Announces 2026 National Championships in Halifax and Edmonton

Karate Canada is excited to officially announce the locations and dates for the 2026 National Karate Championships, the premier annual events that highlight Canada’s top karate talent across multiple age divisions.

The Senior and Under 21 (U21) National Championships will be held from February 20 to 22, 2026, in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Halifax Convention Centre, marking a return to the East Coast for one of Canada’s most prestigious sporting events.

Later in the year, the Junior National Championships will take place from May 14 to 17, 2026, in Edmonton, Alberta, hosted at the Edmonton Expo Centre, providing young athletes from across the country the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete for national titles.

“These championships are the pinnacle of domestic competition in Canada, and we’re thrilled to bring them to two outstanding cities in 2026,” said Karate Canada’s Chair, Craig Vokey.  “With the strong support from our dedicated partners at Karate Nova Scotia (President Shannon Doane and Event Lead Jeff Murphy) and Karate Alberta (President Heather Fidyk), we’re confident that we will deliver world-class experiences for our athletes, coaches, officials, and fans.”

The events will feature thousands of top karateka competing in both kata and kumite across their respective divisions. In addition to crowning national champions, the championships will serve as critical selection events for international team placements, including the 2026 Pan American Championships.

“We are deeply grateful for the support and collaboration of our government partners at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. Their commitment to sport development and community engagement plays a vital role in making events like the National Championships possible,” said Karate Canada Executive Director, Chris Bright. These partnerships not only help us deliver an elite-level experience for our athletes, coaches, and fans, but also contribute to the continued growth of karate across Canada.”

Karate Canada extends its sincere appreciation to the ongoing interest and support provided by Sport Canada, Discover Halifax, Events Nova Scotia, Explore Edmonton and the Government of Alberta and Nova Scotia. “
