Karate Canada Invites Applications for Operational Committees
Karate Canada is pleased to announce an upcoming refresh and strengthening of its operational committee structure, as part of our ongoing commitment to effective governance, athlete-centered development, and national collaboration respecting safe sport actions, advocacy and implementation that guides all KC activities.
We are currently inviting expressions of interest from qualified and engaged members of the karate community to serve on the following committees:
Open Opportunities
- Long-Term Development (LTD) Committee
- Medical Committee
- NCCP Committee (Non-voting)
- High-Performance Committee – Atlantic Regional Representative
These committees play a critical role in supporting Karate Canada’s strategic priorities and ensuring informed, balanced decision-making across all levels of the sport.
Committee Commitment & Term
- Term Length: Three (3) years
- New committee members will be appointed for a three-year term, with the expectation of active participation throughout the duration of the mandate.
- KC reserves the right to end a committee members term
General Terms of Reference (Overview)
While each committee has specific responsibilities, all operational committees share common expectations:
- Support Karate Canada’s strategic plan, policies, and values
- Provide subject-matter expertise and informed recommendations to staff and/or the Board
- Participate in scheduled meetings (virtual and/or in-person, as required)
- Review and contribute to documents, programs, and initiatives within the committee’s mandate
- Act in the best interests of Karate Canada and the national karate community
Committee-Specific Focus Areas
Long-Term Development Committee
- Support and guide the implementation and evolution of Karate Canada’s Long-Term Development framework
- Align athlete, coach, and official development pathways with national and international best practices
- Modernize the concept of LTD to practical implementation
Medical Committee
- Provide guidance on athlete health, safety, and well-being
- Support policies and protocols related to medical care, injury prevention, and safe sport practices
- Review and support regarding National Championships and International event athlete medical waivers and clearances
NCCP Committee, non voting members
- Support the development, delivery, and evaluation of Karate Canada’s NCCP coaching programs
- Provide guidance on coach education standards, pathways, and alignment with Coaching Association of Canada requirements
- Monitor PTSO coach assignments for National Championships and Canada Games
High-Performance Committee – Atlantic Regional Representative
- Advocates for Canada’s best interests, as well as represent the perspectives and realities of the Atlantic region
- Contribute to high-performance strategy, athlete pathways, and selection-related discussions
- Review of coaching staff and monitoring of National Team performance, gaps, and opportunities
