President’s Award Recipient: 2019

Tarana (Yaro) began his karate training in 1974 spending many years practicing under a variety of very prominent masters.  Yaro competed as a member of the Slovakia Karate Team from 1980 to 1985 and on Team Canada from 1990 to 1994.  He served as Assistant Coach with Team Québec from 2000 to 2001.Turning his attention and energy to officiating, Yaro earned a National “A” license in 2002.  In 2006, he upgraded to a PKF license and earned a WKF license in 2010.  Yaro became Chair of the Karate Québec Referee Council in 2010 and Chair of the Karate Canada Referee Council in 2014.  In 2019, he was appointed to the PKF Referee Commission. He has represented Canada in more than 60 international tournaments including 18 World Championships, 16 PKF Championships, and many K1 premiere league tournaments.
