Stanley Janusas

Ross Rumbell Award Recipient: 2002

A lead coordinator for Karate Ontario tasked with hosting the 1993 National Junior Karate Championships in Ottawa, Stanley Janusas was invited to assist as Tournament Director at the 1994 National Championship.  He stayed on in the role of Karate Canada’s Tournament Director through 2013, where he served in a total of 20 National Championships – a period during which the championship tripled in the number of competitors and modernized to online operations.  Stanley focused on ensuring the officials, spectators, and competitors were treated to a memorable experience at the national event. He took great pride in building camaraderie in Canada’s karate community. Stanley also acted as Tournament Director for karate when Canada hosted the Pan American Games in Winnipeg in 1999, the Pan-American Karate Under 21, Cadet, Junior Championship in Montreal, the North American Cup in 2011, the Commonwealth Karate Championship in Montreal (2013) and he coordinated Karate Canada’s role in securing the venue, staff, and technical support requirements for the karate event at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
