REVISED SELECTION CRITERIA (INP) FOR THE WKF OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT TEAM
Please note that in light of the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and other recent and ongoing changes to the international calendar and conditions, brought on by the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, Karate Canada has revised and updated its Internal Nomination Procedure (INP) for the Team that is to represent Canada at the World Karate Federation’s Olympic Qualification Tournament (Paris, France, June 11-13). You may click here to read the updated version of this important document.
Please note: Tier 1 Selection for this Team had already occurred back in March of 2020 (for 4 of the 8 available spots – see News Item from March 11, 2020). This updated INP indicates how Tier 2 selection (for the remaining 4 available spots plus alternate athlete spots for all 8 divisions) will take place (see Section 5.1.1). In light of Karate Canada having had to cancel its planned March 27-28 2021 Senior & U21 Team Trials event (in Calgary AB – see other News item today), and as it has determined that it may not conduct an identified domestic selection event for Tier 2 selection nor Challenge Matches before the occurrence of the WKF Olympic Qualification Tournament, Karate Canada will select remaining spots and alternates as per the latter options described in Sections 5.1.1 (under “Tier 2 Selection”) and 5.2 (“Alternates”).
