CANCELLATION OF MARCH 2021 SENIOR AND U21 NATIONAL TEAM TRIALS
The health and safety of the Karate Canada community continues to be our top priority. Given recent and ongoing developments resulting from the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, as well as recently increased public health restrictions across the country, Karate Canada is forced to cancel the 2021 Senior & U21 National Team Trials event, which was planned for March 27-28 in Calgary (AB).
Karate Canada would like to sincerely thank Karate Alberta, Tourism Calgary, the Province of Alberta and the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino for being excellent partners throughout this process. We look forward to working with them on future events.
(Please note: This event was to constitute an important part of the selection process for several upcoming international events, such as the 2021 Senior Pan American Championships, the Cali 2021 Junior Pan Am Games Qualification Tournament and the WKF’s Olympic Qualification Tournament. Karate Canada has adopted alternative selection criteria to adjust for this event cancellation – see other news items published today- for its Senior National Team Roster, and hopes to publish an Internal Nomination Procedure document for the Cali 2021 Junior Pan Am Games soon, which will indicate the selection process towards participation in that event. Likewise, updated Para-Karate National Team Criteria should be available soon.)
At this time, the next domestic event planned for Karate Canada is the 2021 (joint Junior & Senior) National Championships, scheduled for July 2-4 in St-John’s (NL). Karate Canada will continue to closely monitor the situation so as to make the best decisions possible for the well-being, health and safety of its community and participants.
