KARATE1 SERIES A MONTREAL : 2 TOP 7 FOR CANADA ON DAY 2

79 countries were reunited at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex on the second day of the Karate1 Series A Montreal. The second half of Team Canada was in action and 2 athletes finished with a 7th place.

Melissa Bratic (ON), kumite -68kg, won her first match 6-2 before losing to the #2 in the world, the Japanese Kayo Someya. She moved to repechage and defeated Luana Debatty (BEL), but lost her second match to finish in 7th place.

Sophiat Gracias Halidit (QC), also in kumite -68kg, won her first 2 matches and lost in the third round against Silvia Semeraro (ITA) who is currently ranked 7th in the world. Sophiat Gracias lost in repechage against the 2018 Senior World Championship bronze medallist, Lamya Matoub (ALG) which placed her in the top 7.

Canadians Haya Jumaa (ON) will fight for bronze in kumite -61kg as Daniel Gaysinsky (ON) will try to conquer gold in kumite +84kg. Both athletes will also be heading to the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru later this summer.
