Return on Karate Canada Senior National Training Camp-1 and Team Announcement
Karate Canada has proudly concluded on Sunday March 26th the 2017 edition of its annual Senior National Training Camp-1 held at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel, assembling no fewer than 45 athletes and 7 National Team Coaches, in kata and kumite and, for the first time, Para-karate. This 3-day Camp ended on a high note, as Karate Canada announced the selection of its National Team Roster for the season as well as the National Team selection for participation in the 2017 Senior Pan American Championships (to be held in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, in May – the full list will be posted shortly). The Camp was co-led by National Team Head Coaches Katarina Vadovicova (Kata), Nassim Varasteh (Kumite) and Heather Fidyk (Para-karate), with the help of Assistant National Team Coaches Sorin Alexandru, Kraig Devlin, Roman Saltikov (kumite) and Pam Ross (kata), with assistance from Apprentice Coach Christopher De Sousa Costa.
Highlights of the Camp included a physical testing segment for athletes; an educational presentation on mental preparation by sport psychologist Dr. Robert Schinke; another presentation by Thomas Hall, Interim Executive Director for Athletes CAN, as well an info and discussion session led by Christopher De Sousa Costa, Karate Canada’s Athlete Representative, and much more.
As usual, Karate Canada wishes to sincerely thank all of the staff members and volunteers who once again made this great event possible. Finally, we wish to congratulate all participating athletes for their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to other Senior National Team Roster events of the season, such as the upcoming Regional Kumite Training Camps, the Kata National Training Camp, the Training Camp at the annual Karate Canada Summit, the aforementioned 2017 Senior Pan American Karate Championships, and several other Open Championships.
Karate Canada would like to officially announce the athletes selected onto the Senior National Team Roster for the 2017-2018 season. Congratulations!
