TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR THE PARIS OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION EVENT
Karate Canada is pleased to announce the team of athletes who will be representing Canada at the WKF’s Olympic Qualification Tournament, scheduled to take place on June 11-13, 2021 in Paris, France. In addition to Haya Jumaa (women’s -61 kg kumite), Rita Ha Thi Ngo (women’s kata) and Melissa Bratic (women’s +61 kg kumite), who earned their spots on the team last year, Karate Canada has selected the following athletes based on its published Criteria (see Tier 2 in section 5.1.1 of the Revised Canadian Karate National Team Selection Criteria for the WKF Qualification Tournament towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games) and the athletes’ WKF Olympic standings as of February 1st 2021:
- Toshi Uchiage (men’s kata)
- Ryan O’Neil (men’s -67 kg kumite)
- Mohammad Reza Nikbakhsh (men’s -75 kg kumite)
- Daniel Gaysinsky (men’s +75 kg kumite)
- Kathryn Campbell (women’s -55 kg kumite)
