Karate Canada conducted a “Pilot Project” in 2016 to select a team of 12/13 year olds to compete in the 2016 Junior Pan American Championships. It was decided to collect data at the conclusion of the event to determine whether to continue or discontinue the initiative.

At this time, and in light of the upcoming Karate Canada National Championships the High Performance Committee and the Board of Directors agreed to extend the Pilot Project for 1 more year (for the 2017 Pan American Championships). As such, the following criteria have been established for the 12/13 year old age group for the 2017 Junior Pan American Championships.
