A Word From Our President Mr. Craig Vokey
Following the announcement that karate will be included in the Olympic Program at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, our President, Mr. Craig Vokey would like to share his thoughts on the path to Tokyo 2020:
“What a fantastic time to be a part of Karate Canada! The IOC announcement allows so many dreams to take flight and further enhances the opportunities and credibility of legitimate, government recognized amateur sport in Canada. I want to take a moment and thank my PTSO colleagues, Heritage Canada, Sport Canada, the PKF and WKF for standing by Karate Canada through its transition from the NKA to a modern and professionally run not-for-profit sport organization. The true test of leadership is to dedicate your efforts to benefiting others and to espouse modern governance principles. There have been many difficult decisions that have been essential to our success and I congratulate the past leadership, PTSO Presidents and the Board for taking the difficult path when it was required.
I also wish to thank the dedicated athletes, coaches and officials for their continued selfless support and dedication to our sport. I am continually overwhelmed with pride when I watch our athletes compete, our coaches coach and the professionalism and impartiality of our officials. This dedication is matched only by our Executive Director, staff and our many volunteers.
Tokyo 2020 will not be easy. The tournament is small, the path difficult and the challenges many, but, in my heart, I know that all members of this federation are up for the challenge. Ganbatte!”
