Karate Canada Proudly Launches Team 2020 Program

April 07, 2017

Karate Canada is proud to kickstart its new “Team 2020” program, an initiative aimed at providing enhanced individual support to a small group of targeted athletes who are demonstrating medal potential towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The enhanced support which will be allocated to targeted athletes via this program will be in addition to the support that continues to be provided and offered through Karate Canada’s ongoing National Team programs. (Please note that this program does not constitute a selection criterion for the karate athletes who may represent Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; such selection criteria will be published in due time, and only after the World Karate Federation and the International Olympic Committee will have released the official Qualification Criteria and Process for the 2020 Olympic Games.) You may click here in order to read a general outline and description of this new program. A first group of targeted athletes has been identified and selected in accordance with the Team 2020 program description, and Karate Canada wishes to sincerely congratulate the following three athletes for their selection:

  • Mr. Kenneth Lee (Senior kata)
  • Mrs. Kathryn Campbell (Senior kumite)
  • Mr. Daniel Gaysinsky (Senior kumite)

Additional athletes may also be selected for enhanced Team 2020 support through the course of the 2017-2018 competitive season.
