NASSIM VARASTEH APPOINTED TO WKF RULES AND RANKING COMMISSION
Last Week, the World Karate Federation (WKF) appointed Nassim Varasteh to the Rules and Ranking Commission, as a kumite member. This will allow her to have an active role in the recommendations and decisions of the WKF regarding the rules of the sport, as well as the international ranking of athletes.
Nassim is no stranger to high performance and brings a wealth of experience as both an athlete and a coach. “I have been working with the WKF entourage commission for about 3 years and I’ve gained a lot of insight during this time working with the WKF. My years as an athlete along with my years coaching, through 2 Pan-Am Games cycles and 1 Olympic cycle, have given me a very full perspective of the sport, more specifically kumite.”
Her work within the WKF has been noticed. “I attended meetings as an observer for the rules commission meetings as well as ranking commission meetings this past World Championship. I was formally appointed by the executive commission last week for a position in the rules and ranking commission and I’m thrilled to continue my work within the WKF. Since I retired as an athlete, my goal was to give back to Karate and to Canada and do whatever I could to make a positive impact for the sport I have loved my whole life. My goal following my coaching career is no different. I thrilled at this opportunity” she adds.
“This is a great accomplishment for both Nassim and Karate Canada. I know that Nassim will bring a strong set of relevant skills to this committee.” Says Craig Vokey, President of Karate Canada.
