Two Top-5 finishes for Canadian athletes at 2017 Cadet, Junior & U21 World Championships

October 30th 2017 – Tenerife, Canary Islands – Canada’s junior national karate team is celebrating its performance at the 2017 Cadet, Junior & U21 World Championships, held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, from October 25th-29th, 2017. A total of 25 Junior National Team Roster athletes competed over the weekend at this major international event which brought together over 1700 athletes from 109 different countries.

Canadians earned a total of six top-10 finishes, including two 5th-place spots. Furthermore, a Canadian official, Mr. Trevor Walmsley, achieved the qualification of WKF Kata Judge A. (For further details, please consult our press release.)

Regarding the Canadian Junior National Team’s performance, Karate Canada President Mr. Craig Vokey stated that “Karate Canada had a very good Junior World Championships, improving on their overall performance in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2015.  Preparation now starts for next June’s qualifying tournament for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.” Karate Canada’s young athletes now have their sights set on the upcoming National Championships and Team Selection taking place in Halifax in March, 2018.
