CANCELLATION OF 2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

March 01, 2021

Given recent and ongoing developments resulting from the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, as well as recently increased and / or continuing public health restrictions in various parts of the country, Karate Canada has cancelled the 2021 (Junior & Senior) National Championships, which were planned for July 2-4 in St-John’s, NL.

Karate Canada is, however, very pleased to confirm that its 2022 (Junior & Senior) National Championships are scheduled to take place in St-John’s (NL), on July 1-3, 2022  (exact dates to be confirmed).

Karate Canada wishes to sincerely thank Karate Newfoundland and Labrador, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Destination St-John’s and the Mile One Centre for being excellent partners throughout this process. We look forward to continuing our work with them to organize our most successful Nationals yet, in 2022.

From Karate Canada President Mr. Craig Vokey; “The health and safety of the Karate Canada community continues to be our top priority, and while it is extremely unfortunate that we will not be able to hold a national championship this year, we are looking forward to an outstanding event over the Canada Day Weekend in 2022.”

With the cancellation of both the Calgary and St. John’s national selection events, Karate Canada is examining alternate selection methodologies and criteria for upcoming international events, and hopes to provide clarity on this in a timely fashion.
