Great first day at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex today, where 315 athletes took part in the World Karate Federation Karate1 Series A event! 22 Canadian athletes hit the mats today and 2 of them moved to the finals, which will be held Sunday.

Daniel Gaysinsky (ON), won his first and second matches, respectively 9-0 and 3-0. He then beat Brian Irr (USA), 10th in the world, and Italian Simone Marino qualifying for the gold medal finals.

Haya Jumaa (ON), kumite -61kg, won her first 3 matches before losing in semi-finals to her rival and current world champion Jovana Prekovic (SRB). Haya, ranked 6^th in the world, will therefore move to the bronze medal finals.
